About James Lewis "Jim" Hopson
The 1910 census showing Lula age 21 as wife of this man age 38 confirms an educated guess, since this James L. Hopson died in Cedar Fork township, and the Hopsons had land near to where Lula and our family lived and is the right age.
The tombstone at Bethesda Bapt has Lewis. State death list has Louis. Draft registration in 1918 has Louis, and lists mother as closest relative, implying not married at that point. His son was born 1913, so I am searching for a divorce from 1913 to 1918.
Shirley Markham called him Lewis Hopson, while Roy Allbright called him Jim. Roy also reported that he was said to have hired Walter Trice (black fellow in the community, related to elderly woman who grew herbs, did folk medicine?) to put strichnine poison in the flour barrel at home (to kill Jim Marcom). The story is doubtful, as one of Jim's daughters or her husband was the subject of a similar story about poisoning the well.
1940 census shows James L. and Ethel living in Cedar Fork.
