The death cirtifcate of his Daughter Elizabeth Jardine Shumway shows his birth place as "Mexico". This is thought to be a mistake. Other sources including his gravestone show "Scotland".

Biographical Summary:

"...James Jardine, son of Richard Jardine and Sarah Wilson, was born 6 May 1819 at East Calbride, Lanarkshire, Scotland, married Isabella White third daughter of John White and Isabella Scott on 17 July 1840. Baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by John Munrow in the River Clyde on the 18 March 1843 and confirmed the same night by him. Called and ordained to the office of Priest 24 May 1845 and ordained by Mathew Center. Ordained an Elder 24 May 1846 by James Russell.

Presided over the Daley and Kilbrina Branch for 4 years. When he started for the United States they sailed from Liverpool on the ship Scurling 22 April 1855, landed in New York 28 May 1855, settled in Sculville Co., Pa. And went to work in the mines; moved in the fall 1856 to Illinois and on the 2 May 1859, started for Utah with an ox team and traveled from St. Johns, Perry Co. Illinois to Florence, Neb. And crossed the plains in Edward Stevenson Co. and landed in Salt Lake in the latter part of Sept. , after a journey of nearly 2,000 miles, footsore and weary, we settled in Cache Valley 5 Oct 1859 being traveled 21 weeks and was glad to rest..."
