Per the 1870 Census a Jasper J. 18, is living with his parents James J, 53, Lydia, 47, and his siblings William, 17, Sarah, 15, Allen J., 11, America (F), 8, and Melvin (F), 4, in Tattnall, Georgia. Jasper J.'s father lists his occupation as Farmer. Within the household an Elizabeth Grant, 25, and her son Scipio, 10, are farm laborers. Jasper's parents James J. and Lydia both state that they were born in Georgia.
Per the 1880 Census John J. Sands, (James Jasper), 29, his wife Emma E. Sands, 27, and their children James J., 6, Horrace V., 4, Thomas M.,2, William A., 0, were living in Dog Fennell, Tattnall, Georgia. A George Washington, 16, was also listed as living in the household and was listed as being a farm laborer. John J. Sands listed his occupation as Farmer and estimated his year of birth as 1851. John J. Sands stated that he was born in Georgia and that so were his parents. Horrace's mother Emma E. Sands lists her occupation as Keeping House and estimated her year of birth as 1853. Emma E. stated that she was born in Georgia and that so were her parents.
Per the 1900 Census J.J. Sands, 49, is married to a second wife Susan, 46, in Militia District 1432 Glennville village, Tattnall, Georgia and children Alice, 18, Allen 15, Lydia 12, and Agnes 2. Per the 1900 Census John J. and Susan were married in approximately 1896. J. J. Sands lists his occupation as Farmer. Susan's birth date is estimated to be October 1854 and that she and her parents were born in Georgia. Per this Census information perhaps only Agnes, 2, was both John J. and Susan's child together. Alice, Allen, and Lydia would have most likely been additional children of J.J. and Emma E. born after the 1880 Census was taken. Per her tombstone Emma died on February 3, 1896.
J. J. Sands is buried in the Beards Creek Cemetery in Glennville, Tattnall County, Georgia.
