About Horace Virgil Sands

Per the 1880 Census Horrace V. Sands, 4, was living with his father John J. Sands, 29, his mother Emma E. Sands, 27, and his siblings James J., 6, Thomas M.,2, William A., 0, in Dog Fennell, Tattnall, Georgia. A George Washington, 16, was also listed as living in the household and was listed as being a farm laborer. Horrace's father John J. Sands listed his occupation as Farmer and estimated his year of birth as 1851. John J. Sands stated that he was born in Georgia and that so were his parents. Horrace's mother Emma E. Sands lists her occupation as Keeping House and estimated her year of birth as 1853. Emma E. stated that she was born in Georgia and that so were her parents.

Per the 1900 Census Horrace, 25, is living with his wife L. V. Sands, 26, in Militia District 1432 in Glennville village, Tattnall, Georgia with their daughter Maggie Sands, 2. In the 1900 Census Horrace estimates his birthdate as May 1875 and estimates his marriage year to L. V. Sands as having occured in 1896. L. V. Sands states that estimates her birthdate as September 1874.

Per the 1910 Census Horrace, 35 years old was living with his wife Lula, 36 years old, in Glennville, Tattnall, Georgia with their children: Maggie (Female) 12 years old, Raleigh (Male) 6 years old, Belle (Female) 4 years old, Burnie (Male?) 2 years old, and Virgel J. Sands (Male) 2 months old. The ? in reference to Burnie involves the fact that on the 1920 Census Horrace has a Berny (Female) who was 12 years old and no male Burnie. It is my opinion that the male designation in the 1910 Census was a mistake and the Burnie referenced is in fact Bernie Sands who married Tootle T.Driggers.

The 1912 Census lists a marriage between a H. V. Sands and a Florence (Vincy) Vencie Baker as having occured on May 26, 1912 in Tattnall, Georgia.

Per the Census Horrace had to fill out draft registration information for the year 1917-1918 during WWI.

Per the 1920 Census Horrace, 45 years old was living with his second wife (Florence) Viney 30 years old, in Glennville. Tattnall, Georgia with children: Maggie (Female) 21 years old, Rawlin (Male) 17 years old, Bell (Female) 14 years old, Berny (Female) 12 years old, Bernice (Male) 4 years 8 months, and Alma (Female) 3 years 1 month.

Talula "Lula", Horrace's first wife, is Berny's (Bernie's) birth mother.

Both of Horrace's parents were born in the state of Georgia. Per the 1900 Census Horrace married Lula in 1896.

Horace Virgil Sands is buried at the Loves Chapel Cemetery in Glennville, Tattham County, Georgia. Per the headstone Horace Virgil Sands was born May 12, 1875 and died September 13, 1925.
