Obituaries: J. A. Reid services Tuesday

James Arthur "Jim" Reid, 63, retired welder and transport driver, died Sunday (Feb 13, 1983) at his home, 331 Madison, after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Reid was born Feb. 24, 1919 in Barns, Miss., to Mrs. Lilla Pool Reid and the late William Arthur Reid. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and lived in Duncan before moving to Clarksdale more than 18 years ago. He was a Baptist.

He leaves his wife, Lottie B. Gray Reid; two sons, Jerry D. Reid of Bangor, Maine and James Larry Reid of Montika, Calif.; his mother, Mrs. Lilla Reid of Greenwood; three brothers, Donald Reid and Bennie C. Reid, both of Greenwood, and Larkin "Larry" Reid of Grenada; and four grandchildren.

Services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at National Funeral Chapel with burial in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The Rev. W. F. Appleby, pastor of First United Methodist Church, will officiate.

My mom's sister, Della Estelle Graham-Reid, is buried in Madera County. We lived in Chowchilla when I was born in Merced.

Aunt Della is buried in Madera County, California. Larry's (son) wife said there were 3 graves sites that belong to the Reid's. She was killed in a car wreck in Chowchilla, CA. She died the same year I was born, 1944.

Della Estella Reid is buried in the cemetery: Block 5, Row 5, Plot J. Office verified birth/death dates. Name in records: Della Estella Reid.

6/15/2011 Cemetery Hopper reported problem:
Searched the stated plot/section and could not find the grave. Found both neighboring markers, Amador and Creighton, that the office told me about but there is no marker where Della's is supposed to be.

6/15/2011 Per Arbor Vitae Cemetery office:
The cemetery district was formed in 1946 and now requires grave stones. There wouldn't have been that requirement at the time of Della's death in 1944. The cemetery office does not know whether or not a stone was placed and does not have an obituary. Cemetery office shared:
a) Funeral home was: Madera Funeral Home. Office stated they are owned under a different name and have sparce records.
b) Newpaper was Madera Tribune, if an obituary was ran.
