His gravestone was erected by his sister EFM Skipworth of Johannesburg. The date of birth on it is incorrect. It is inscribed as 31-8-1862 which is a month before his eldest sister was born. His baptism record clearly shows his birthdate as 31 Aug 1871.
He was apparently scalded with hot water as a child and was crippled. His sister Susie looked after him.
