 The Hooghly  made four voyages as a convict transport to Sydney  in 1825,1827,1831 and
            1834.  She landed 736 male convicts aafter voyages ranging between 93 and 113 days.  She
            carried emigrants to South Australia  in 1839, and made a further six voyages to South
            Australia from 1843 to 1856. (See Ronald Parsons' "Migrant Ships for South Australia
            1836-1866") . She also visited Port Phillip on a half dozen occasions no doubt looking for a

James Knight was sentenced to 7 years and sent to Australia for stealing ducks. He was 21 years old at the time. After serving his sentence, he was released as a settler and worked for George Cox at his estate, 'Winbourne' in Mulgoa. He died when he accidentally shot himself trying to get through a fence, an inceident which is mentioned in George Cox's letters to his son.
