Note:
James Lee, of British soldier lineage, built a log cabin on this site when he, his wife, Hannah, and his family arrived with the United Empire Loyalists from Maryland in 1792. He brought some furnishings and flowering plants with him and several of these can still be found on the premises. He cut virgin pine on the property and built some of the furniture, one specific piece in the pioneer kitchen being a seven-foot china cupboard made with wooden pegs instead of nails. James Lee was accidently killed by an axe flying from its handle at the raising of the first frame house built in Saltfleet Township. They had five sons and three daughters. Author unknown
"According to Lee history, they were buried in a small lot on their farm --- Lots 20 and 21, Conc. VI, Saltfleet township. James Lee, a British soldier served under General Cornwallis during the Revolutionary War. After the war was over he settled in Maryland and married Hannah, daughter of George and Sarah (Harrisohn) Corman. Later with other Loyalist families James and his small family moved to Canada and settled on Lots 21 and 22, Concession IV, Saltfleet township. He was accidently killed at the raising of the first frame house in Saltfleet by an axe flying from its handle. The dates of his death and of his wife, Hannah, have not been recorded. They were buried on their farm but the stones marking their resting place have long since disappeared." Annals of The Forty

James Lee and Hannah Corman Lee's Grant for land in Niagara, Ontario, Canada. The land grant is for 200 acres on top of the Niagara Escarpment in the township of Saltfleet. It is pertaining to Concession 4 Lot 20 and 21, roughly where Ridge Road and Second Ave E. meet on the map. James and Hannah Lee are said to be buried on this property in unmarked graves.
Corman family houses on this property (now part of Placid Place) date to 1810. John "George" George Corman moved to Saltfleet in 1791-2, and built the first home on this site. Hannah, George's daughter married James Lee, and the two moved above the escarpment and built a home which is now the Erland Lee Museum. This Corman house once stood at the centre of the Corman farm, stretching from Gray's Road east past Corman Avenue. Mary cousins and relatives held lands north of King Street.
