James Leonard, Sr

James Leonard married Sarah "Sally" Wolfington in 1797 in North Carolina. He moved to Orange County, Indiana, after 1820.

James' brother, Thomas, moved to Orange County before 1820. Thomas was married to Ann "Nancy" Wolfington, sister of Sarah/Sally.

Thomas and James were the sons of William Leonard (1743-1826) and Jemima Bailey (1743-1800) who were born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, raised their family in Guilford County, North Carolina, and died in Grayson County, Virginia.

William and Jemima had other sons and daughters, some of whom stayed in Carolina and Virginia. One daughter, Jemima (1780 to before 1830), married John Wolfington Jr. (brother to Nancy and Sally, above). John and Jemima also moved to Orange County prior to 1820.

The given name "Bailey" continues to appear from generation to generation among the descendants of William Leonard and Jemima Bailey.
