James T. Lewis died at Ingleside, Neb., Sunday morning of pneumonia, after an illness of but a few days. The body was brought here Monday evening and the funeral was held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G. W. Halstead, at 3:30 yesterday afternoon, Rev. C. M Foreman officiating. Mr. Lewis was born in Brown county, Ohio, July 5, 1833, and was therefore past 82 years of age. He was married to Miss Hilda Pennington May 9, 1860, at Stonts, Ohio. They moved to this city in February 1885 and have made this their home ever since. Nine children were born to them, five of whom survive him, Chas. T., of Ohio; Edgar F. of Union, Illinois; Mrs. M. Binsbacher of Missouri; and Wm J. and Mrs. G.W. Halstead of this city. He leaves twelve grandchildren and some great-grandchildren, two brothers and one sister, besides his aged wife to mourn the loss of husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Lewis enlisted in Co. K 175th Ohio Vol. Infantry on the 24th of Sept. 1864 and fought in the battle at Franklin, Tenn. He was a member of John A. Dix Post, G.A.R. and his body was placed in its final resting place by the hands of his old comrades.

ANSWER THE LAST ROLL CALL

James T. Lewis, a resident of Blair since 1885, died at the state hospital at Ingleside on last Sunday morning after an illness of pneumonia fever lasting but a few days.

Mr. Lewis was born in Brown county, Ohio, July 5, 1833 where he was reared to manhood.

He was married to Miss Hulda M. Pennington on May 9, 1860 at Stouts, Ohio and to this union nine children were born, five of whom survive him and with twelve grandchildren mourn their loss.

He enlisted in Co. K, 175th Ohio Volunteers on the 24th of Sept. 1864 and served through the remainder of the war.

He was a member of John A. Dix Post No. 52 G.A.R. of Blair and took great interest in all things pertaining to the order.

Last June he in company with his wife went to the Old Soldiers’ Home at Burkett, Nebr., but failing health caused him to be removed to the state hospital at Ingleside where the end came last Sunday morning.

The remains was brought to Blair for burial and the funeral services were held in the Baptist church yesterday afternoon at 3:30, Rev. Foreman officiating and interment was made in the Blair cemetery where the remains was followed by a large concourse of friends, mute evidence of the respect in which he was held.
