About James Luttrell

Order Book 1678-98, p. 827. Court held 15 July 1698. Northumberland County, Virginia.

Upon the motion of Susanna Littrell Adm of her deceased husband James Littrell, Dury Lawson (?), Jim Webb, John Baily, John Boar, and William Ward any four of the said five are appointed sometime before the next court to appraise the estate of the said Decedent being first sworn by the court Justice and ordered that the said Susanna exhibit an inventory thereof to the next court upon oath.

[This is not a transcript of the actual court procedings but is from the order book used by the officers to be sure the orders of the court are carried out. It seems that the actual court record is missing or has been destroyed.]

I have James attached to Richard and Anne Luttrell, that parentage is very much in question. How can Anne have children as late as 1634 when she was born in 1551? She would have been 83 years old! Plus she would have been 77 years of age when her first child, Oliver, was born. I am positive I have a generation missing here at the very least or possibly am connecting James to the wrong family all together.

we know for sure is that James Luttrell was first transported to Virginia from a land grant given to Laurance Robinson for the transportation of 27 persons including James Latterell.

Later Daniell Selby of Somerset County received 50 acres on June 15, 1678 for transporting 15 people into Maryland. James Loterill was one of them. He had to have returned to Virginia sometime later.
