About James McElroy, I
'https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/landscape/LTQX-NKC
Notes:
James McElroy was the first of his family to arrive in the Colonies of Great Britain in America.
Probably the name changed from McIlroy to McElroy when the family left Scotland and went to Northern Ireland or when the family came to the American Colonies and the New World.
James and Sarah sailed from Belfast on the ship "John of Dublin" (in the company of "George and Anne"), with their kin the McDowells, and the McElraths, Campbells, and Irvines. Arrived in America in 1729, bringing their son, John with them. They first landed in Philadelphia and lived successfully in Bucks County and Cumberland County, Pennsylvania and then later, Campbell County, Virginia. James fought in the French & Indian and all five of his sons fought in the Revolutionary War.

******************************
Probably James McElroy and Sarah McCune McElroy were on the "John of Dublin" , rather than the "George and Anne" and information in the McElroy/Irvine records described the voyage as a well scheduled trip with nothing out of the ordinary except whales. There is a story that describes what happened on the "George and Anne" and very well could have happened to many immigrants going to the New World during those days. It is located in the McDowell family information.
James McElroy and Sarah McCune McElroy first appear in records buying land on Buffalo River in 1749. This land fell into Prince Edward County when it was formed 5 years later. That land on Buffalo River was the same land willed to son James in 1772 and sold by him in 1789 when he and his 2 brothers moved to Kentucky.
By 1749, James McElroy had moved from Pennsylvania and had settled in Virginia. One son, Archibald moved to the Guilford County, North Carolina area in 1765 and John moved to the Mecklenburg County, North Carolina area in 1772. The three other sons, Hugh, Samuel and James moved to Kentucky between 1779-1789.

GEDCOM Note
About the year A. D. 1729, James McElroy, with his young wife, Sarah McCune (or McCue, or McHugh) left County Down, Ireland, for America on the ship "George and Ann," sailing from Belfast. A number of other immigrants accompanied them, including McCunes, McDowells, McCampbells, McKees, and the Rev. John Irvine and wife. They landed at Philadelphia, and stopped for a time in Bucks County. It is probable that the McElroys, already in Bucks County were kindred and friends. and they would naturally turn aside to visit them and get desired information. Possibly they may have remained there several years. The Scotch-Irish in America, p. 21.

THE McELROY FAMILY.
James McElroy, a Scotsman, with his family, friends and relatives, emigrated from County Down, Ireland, in the ship "George and Ann" in 1729. His ancestors are said to have come from County Lanark, near Glasgow, Scotland. He landed at Philadelphia and settled in Bucks County, PA About 1760 he went with his family to Campbell County, Va. He and his sons are said to have participated in the French and Indian War. Archibald, the second son, was killed at the battle of King's Mountain, and Samuel was present as a soldier at the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown. While in Virginia three of the McElroy brothers, Samuel, Hugh and James, married respectively Mary, Esther and Margaret Irvine, the daughters of the Rev. John Irvine who had come to this country with James McElroy, Sr., in 1729.
In 1787, the three McElroy brothers with their families moved to Kentucky. Samuel and James located in what was then Nelson County, now Marion County, several miles southeast of the present location of Lebanon. Hugh settled in what is now Washington County., on a farm, a part of which is within the eastern limits of Springfield. The Springfield Graded School building is located on a part of this property. Hugh built on this farm the first brick house between Danville and Bardstown. The first County Court of Washington County was organized and held in this house. Hugh reared a family of ten children. His fifth son, John (1772-1833) married Mary Hundley, Nov. 5, 1794, and they settled on a farm on Pleasant Run, near the old Sandusky Station about five miles east of Springfield, where his children, Hugh, Anthony and Sarah were born. John died in the cholera epidemic of 1833.
