Biography
James was born to Richard Mellen and Elizabeth (birth surname unknown) at Charlestown, Masschusetts Bay on April 3, 1642.[1] He married Elizabeth Dexter and they had at least eight children together.[2] He and John Pratt witnessed a transaction between Christopher and Elizabeth Pickett of Muddy River and Joshua Scottow of Boston on 1 May 1662.
James was "was supposed to be deceased" in 1677. (Charlestown Genealogies, Wyman). A probate inventory was filed in 1680;[3] James Mellen's estate was divided in April 1684 at Middlesex County.
