About James Samuel Mikell
GEDCOM Note
James S Mikell was a Methodist Minister and served in the War between the States as a cook. When he was conscripted, he said he would not kill another human being so he was put near the front lines to cook for the troops and was warned he might be killed unarmed. He agreed to that. He also served on the School Board. Our great grandfather was "kind of raw boney". He liked to go to the Steinhatchee River for fish with Annie Lee's husband and also son, Phil Mikell. It was a 4 day trip by horse and wagon and they camped overnight coming and going.
They were first cousins. James S mother was married several times and he left the home. He went to live with the Coates family and fell in love with Mary Jane.
