About James A. Paul

James, his wife Eleanor and two eldest daughters, Martha and Mary departed Vermont between 1837 and 1840, bound for the township of Aurora in Erie County, New York. James was one of twelve brothers and sisters, eight of which left their home state seeking more space and better farmlands than the rocky soil available to them in Vermont.

After their arrival James chose property on Blanchard Road in the township of Colden where their last two children, Luna and Pliny were born. Their house is still standing, having been extensively remodeled over the years, but still occupies the same footprint as it did when built.

James became a well respected member of the community and established himself as a Justice of the Peace in addition to his farming interests. He performed the ceremony for the marriage of his daughter, Martha, when she united with Horace Jameson on January 1, 1854.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: May 17 2021, 20:23:05 UTC
