About James Melvin Pettey

James Melvin Pettey, 84, 710 E. 2nd South, retired vice president of Patrick Dry goods Company, died of natural causes Monday in a Salt Lake rest home. Mr. Pettey was a salesman with Patrick Dry Goods prior to becoming Vice President and was associated with the firm for 54 years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Elks Lodge 85, and the Salt Lake Chamber of commerce, Wholesale Trades Council and Sports Committee. A Ferron, Emery County, native, he was born November 8, 1889, a son of Heber Alonzo and Matlinda Lowery Pettey. He married Lillie Janet Stevens in 1907 and she died March 21, 1932. On February 1, 1935, he married Mildred Baders in Coalville.

Survivors include his widow; sons and a daughter, Leo Melvin, James Richard, Mrs. Gordon (Wanda) Moyes, all of Salt Lake City; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; a brother and sister, Clell, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Edria McNeil, Orangeville, Emery County. Funeral services will be Thursday noon at 574 E. 1st South, where friends call Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. and prior to services Thursday. Burial will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
