About James Row, Min. of Kilspindie
Biographical Summary
"James Row, bapt. 25th June 1562, eldest son of John R., min. of Perth ; educated at Univ. of St Andrews ; M.A. (1582); ord. in 1587; removed to Rait in 1591, but returned before 1599; was one of forty-two ministers who signed Protest to Parliament, 1st July 1606, against introduction of Episcopacy. A decree against him as a usurer was pronounced by the Privy Council 4th June 1612. At a Visitation of the Kirk, 1st Sept. 1613, it was stated "he resorted over meikle to the burgh of Perth, speciallie upon the Satterday, that he takis no paine to studie, and is giffen to drink." He retired to bed in his usual health, with another minister, and both were found dead in the morning 29th Dec. 1614. He marr. Marjorie, daugh. of Robert Anderson, burgess of Perth; she survived him, and had issue — John ; Patrick ; Margaret; Jean (marr., cont. 30th Aug. 1636, Thomas Smith, maltman burgess of Perth) ; Marjorie (marr. Alexander Crawford, younger of Manuel Mylne)."
