James Leonard Sanford

After a long illness, James Leonard Sanford, 67, passed away at his Edmond home on August 4, 2014. He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Andrea Lynne Sanford. After a 9-½ year “courtship,” the couple was married in Kingston, R.I., on March 14, 1970. Jim is lovingly remembered by his son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Michael and Christian Marie Sanford, as well as his daughter and son-in-law Shannon Elizabeth and Ryan Roberson of Edmond. Loving grandchildren of their beloved “Papa” are Ethan Jacob Roberson, Katie Scarlett Sanford, Aric Kellen Roberson, Sean Patric Sanford and Owen Mitchell Roberson. Jim was born in Providence, RI on March 14, 1947. He graduated from Warwich Veteran’s Memorial High School in 1965 and went on to earn a degree in Business Admini-stration from Bryant College in 1974. He worked as an insurance underwriter specialist for Hartford Insurance Co., AFIA, Malone and Hyde, Healthcare Oklahoma and PLICO. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1969 after serving in Vietnam. Interment with military honors will commence at 9 a.m. Thursday, August 21, at Ft. Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Okla. A celebration of Jim’s life will follow at Crawford Family Funeral Services in Edmond at 1 p.m. on Aug. 21. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in the honor of Jim can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
