James Scott's name appears in a List of Captain Daniel Smith's Company of Militia in Fincastle County (Undated list - Draper MS 4XX61) (Dunmore's War, P 396). James Scott eventually settled in Russell County where he acquired considerable land by grant, originally in Washington County, later Russell, lying on Big Cedar Creek.
