JAMES SINCLAIR OF MURKLE
James Sinclair of Murkle, styled Master of Caithness, who had a charter of the lands of Halcro and others, 20 April 1593, wherein he is designed brother-german of George, Earl of Caithness, who, on 19 April 1613, made a disposition to him of the quarter lands of Murchil. He married Elizabeth Stewart, third daughter of Robert, Earl of Orkney, natural son of King James V., by whom he had two sons and a daughter. The Scots Peerage II: p. 340

5 June 1633: Signet letters of horning raised at the instance of Alexander Sutherland of Fors against Sir James Sinclair of Murkle for failing to pay to Alexander 4000 merks assigned (25 July 1629) to him by Francis Sinclair; which sum of money was due to Francis by the late James Sinclair of Murkle, his father, and the above Sir James, his brother, under the marriage contract (19 July 1621, registered Register of Deeds, 22 June 1632) between Francis on the one part and Jonnett Sinclair [sic], daughter of the above Alexander Sutherland, on the other part.
