About James Patrick Edward Slaven
Left school at 8. Carried bags of wheat. At Koorawatha. At about 23 he worked on the railway.on the extra gang. House burnt down in 1929 at Koorawatha. Joan, aged 18 mths. Mary, Cecil went with James (Jim) to Nyngan for a short time, He was working on the railway in Nyngan. Olga stayed with grandparents, Jim and Josie Hyde in Koorawatha, Olga then went to Bathurst to live with Ida (Slaven) and Jack Stollery. James and Catherine Mary rented a house in Bathurst till James bought a house in Nyngan. They lived and there. Next move was to Lithgow. Rented a house in Inch St, then in Bells Rd, Oakey Park. They soon bought one in Oakey Park and were there for 12 years. Grandma hated renting, considering it dead money. They went to Condobolin for several years, and lastly to Milltjorpe where Jim retired. In retirement he worked at the Potato mill. Interests: Fishing, Going to the trots and greyhound races, Going rabbiting. kangaroo shooting.
