Biographical Summary

"James Smyth, brother of George S., maltman, burgess of Perth ; reader there and at Kinfauns, 1571-80 ; adm. 20th Feb. 1581 ; died 10th Oct. 1613. He left 100 merks to the parish school. He marr. Janet, daugh. of "William Hay of Barra (who survived him and marr. (2) John Strang, his successor in the parish), and had issue — James, student at Glasgow Univ., died before 5th Sept. 1657 ; Margaret ; Elizabeth — one of whom marr. John Herbertson, notary and clerk to Univ. of Glasgow."
