Lakeville, Massachussetts page 1780 James Sproat of Scituate in 1711 was the owner of a tract of land upon which this house stands and in the next year was a resident of Middleboro. This estate was conveyed in 1737 to his son Robert, and in 1779 to Zebedee Sproat, later to William and Ebenezer Nelson who in 1806 sold the property to General Ephraim Ward.
