Biographical Summary

When James Stewart, 5th Lord Innermeath was born in 1538, in Perthshire, Scotland, his father, Sir John Stewart Innermeath, was 17 and his mother, Elizabeth Gray Bethune Beaton, was 25. He married Helen Ogilvy before 7 July 1554. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 14 February 1586, in his hometown, at the age of 48.

James Stewart, 5th Lord Innermeath was born between 1537 and 1539.2 He was the son of John Stewart, 4th Lord Innermeath and Elizabeth Bethune. He married Helen Ogilvy, daughter of James Ogilvy, 4th Lord Ogilvy of Airlie and Helen Sinclair, before 7 July 1554. He died on 14 February 1585/86. In 1569 he was one of the hostages for Queen Mary of Scots. He was Commissioner for quieting the public troubles within the realm.3 He succeeded as the 5th Lord Innermeath [S., 1469] in January 1569/70. He was Councillor Extraordinary in 1577/78.

James Stewart (5th Lord Innermeath) was born about 1538 in Innermeath, Perthshire, Scotland. He was the son of John Stewart and his wife Elizabeth Bethune nee Grey.

James was a hostage for Mary Queen of Scots in 1569

Lord Innermeath is an extinct title in the Peerage of Scotland created c. 1471 for Walter Stewart, 1st Lord Innermeath. Walter Stewart had previously been Lord of Lorne, but resigned that title in favour of Colin Campbell, 1st Earl of Argyll. The sixth Lord Innermeath was further ennobled as the Earl of Atholl in 1596, but both title became extinct upon the death of James Stewart, 2nd Earl of Atholl and 7th Lord Innermeath

He died on 14 February 1586 in Innermeath, Perthshire, Scotland.
