Origins

Samuel lived in the part of Plymouth which became Plympton and later Halifax. He was selectman of Plympton and deacon of the church there.
Samuel’s will is recorded at Plymouth Probate Court 1736 Ca 1676.
Samuel first married Mercy. Mercy died in Plympton, MA on 4 Aug 1714.265 “Marcy Sturtevant wife of Sam^ll Sturtevant Sen^r Deceased August y^e 4^th 1714—(in the 60^th year of her age and is buried in Plympton Burying place)”.
Mercy’s surname is often given as Cornish, but it’s not clear why. Is there some connection between Mercy, wife of Samuel Sturtevant and Thomas & Mary (Stone) Cornish?
Their children include:
James Sturtevant (ca 1687-8 May 1756)
