From E. M. Ruttenber’s History of the Town of Newburgh, E.M Ruttenber & Co., Printers, Newburgh, 1859:

“Another branch of the family is that of MILES WARREN who has been a resident of our village for many years. His grandfather was James Warren, of Woodbridge, now Bethany, Conn., who married Abigail Thomas and had: Jason, Sarah, Rachel, Abigail, Nathaniel, Jemima, Edward and Richardson (New Haven Records). He died during the Revolution at the North (probably Ticonderoga) where he had gone to take care of his son Edward, then a soldier and sick. His son Richardson, was killed during the Revolution, on board the American frigate Trumbull, by a cannon ball which passed through both thighs. His son Nathaniel, was born Jan 15 1755, and married Susanna, daughter of Isaac Johnson, of Semour, Conn, by whom he had six children. viz: Betsey, Charles, Marshall, Isaac, Miles, Susan. Miles was born at Bethany, Conn, July 4, 1790. He married, Sally Coe, (1810) by whom he had George T, William S, Edward M (died), Edward R. M (died), Sarah A. H. (died), and John W. Mrs Sally Warren died April 13, 1855, and he married (1856) Ruth, daughter of James Miller, formerly of Crawford, Orange co, by whom he has: Anson Miles. b. May 13, 1858.”

Notes

James never lived in Litchfield County Ct as he died at Ticonderoga, Essex, New York after riding his horse from Woodbridge, Ct to assist his son Edward who was sick. James died of dysentery at the Ticonderoga camp during the Revolutionary War, and , barring any discovery of a formal burial and gravestone, was buried in a mass grave along with others having died of dysentery and small pox. After his death, his wife Abigail Thomas Warren moved to Watertown, Litchfield, CT with sons Edward and Nathaniel and was buried in that cemetery.

Hello!

Apparently because that particular James Warren (decendant from Richard Warren) is officially on record as having no children. Our James Warren was born and died in years close to the Mayflower guy's, and he lived a few towns away.

For whatever reason, however, there seems to be NO official birth record of our James Warren showing who his parents were (to trace the line back any further). Apparently he used to tell people he was Irish.

I used to joke that the two guys were the same guy, that the original wife couldn't bear him children, so he had a mistress who lived down the road. :) Doesn't seem to fit though.

Do you know the reasons why the Mayflower does not accept our James Warren as the son of John Warren & Naomi Bates?

I emailed them and asked that question. They did not respond.

I also have James Warren b. circ 1720 of Connecticut and Abibail Thomas b. 17 Jul 1724 Wallingford, CT as the grandparents of our Miles Warren.

There has been no validation of James' ancestry and the MAYFLOWER SOCIETY has refuted the possibility of John Warren & Naomi Bates.
