In the name of God Amen I James Willis of the County of Chatham and State of North Carolina, Being in a Low State of Health in body but my memory, sound and intire and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die Do make this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form as follows. - First, that all my Just debts, be paid. Then I give & leave in the following manner 1. Item I give unto my Daughter Suckey Willis one feather Bed & furniture also one Cow & Calf one sow & pigg one Ewe & Lamb & five pound worth in pewter, 2. Item I give unto my Daughter Jamima Willis one feather Bed & furniture, one cow & Calf one sow & pigg one Ewe & Lamb and five pounds worth in pewter. 3. Item I give unto my son Willson Willis three Hundred acres of land on White Oak Creek also one Horse saddle & Bridle. 4. Item I give unto my son Larkin Willis all the Land, I purchas'd of John Caudle also one Horse saddle & Bridle. 5. Item I give unto Daughter Molly Willis one feather Bed & furniture one cow & calf one sow & pigg one Ewe & Lamb & five pounds worth in pewter. 6. Item I give unto my daughter Nanney Willis one feather Bed & furniture one cow & calf one sow & pigg one Ewe & Lamb and five pounds worth laid out in pewter 7. Item I give unto my two young sons Elijah & Elisha Willis all the remainder of my Lands to be Equally divided by my Exec'rs also one Horse saddle & Bridle (Each) Item, Now I lend unto my beloved Wife Elizibeth Willis all the remainder of my Estate during Her natural Life or Widdow Hood and at her marriage or Death I desire the remainder of my stock with all my working tools to be Equally divided between my four mentioned sons then, all the remainder of my Estate to be Equally divided By my Exe'rs. & such men as they shall choose to assist? them, Between my six Daughters Rebeccah Caudle, Sally Crow, Suckey Willis, Jemima Willis, Molley Willis, Nanney Willis. Now, hear I make an observation, all the part of my Estate following (falling?) to my Daughter Rebeccah Caudle, my son Larkin Willis is to take and keep in possession and keep untill her husband John Caudle doth make a good and Lawfull Deed to the sd Lands I give to my son Larkin Willis then the said Larkin is to give up the said part Belonging to sd Rebeccah to be the said Rebeccah's with the Heirs of Her own Body only forever- Lastly Item I do hearby constitute appoint and Ordain my son Wilson Willis with Thomas Bell, Executors of the my Last Will & Testament to Divide or have divided at there own discretion without any order of court agreeable to above mentioned and I do hearby disannul and Revoke all former Wills and acknowledge this and this only to be my Last Will and in Witness whereof I have & hearunto set my hand & seal this 1st day of August 1795. James Willis of North Carolina was born about 1755 in Cumberland County, Virginia, and died in 1796 in Chatham County, North Carolina. He married Elizabeth Wilson, daughter of Benjamin Wilson, also of Cumberland County. Children mentioned in James' will were Rebecca Caudle, Sally Crow, Suckey Willis (a daughter), Jemima Willis, Wilson Willis, Larkin Willis (born in 1777), Molly Willis, Nannie Willis, Elijah Willis, and Elisha Willis.
