    Jan Petter Magnusson was born on 20 November 1855 at Hoflanda, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden. He was christened on the 25th.1 He and Christina Moblad appeared on the church records of No. 168 Staden, Karlstad, Värmland County, Sweden, between 1877 and 1880. There are 100 people living at this address, including about 25 families with about 25 children. It appears there are about 35 apartments in the building. Christina is living with 6 other females and Peter is living with two other men. There is also a Gustaf Moblad, not further identified, living there.2 Jan Petter Magnusson emigrated on 23 February 1880 from Karlstad, Värmland County, Sweden,The ship and route that he took has not been found. He is not the J P Magnusson age 24 who travels from Gotenburg to Fredrikshamn, Denmark, on the ship Avanti, as this one has a wife and 6 month old son.

Sweden.3 He married Christina Moblad, daughter of Erland Moblad and Kajsa Olsdotter, on 4 November 1881 at Varna, Marshall County, Illinois. They were married by G. O. Gustafson, Minister of the Swedish Lutheran Church in Varna.4 Peter farmed near Magnolia until 1883 when he moved the family to a farm on the outskirts of Loomis, Phelps County, Nebraska. A census listed John as head of household on 18 June 1885 at Centre Township, Phelps County, Nebraska. 1885 State of Nebraska Agriculture Census. The census shows that Peter was renting for a share of the products, was farming 100 acres of improved land and 60 other acres. The farm land and buildings were valued at $2500; farm implements were valued at $800, and livestock at $500. Estimated value of all farm products for 1884 was $500. There were 2 horses, one milk cow, which had been purchased in 1884, and one calf. Fifty pounds of butter had been made in 1884. There were no sheep on the farm, but there were 44 swine and 24 head of poultry which had produced 100 dozen eggs. Crops grown in 1884 were 28 acres of Indian corn producing 700 bushel, 10 acres of oats producing 200 bushel, 30 acres of wheat producing 578 bushel and 10 acres of broom corn producing 4000 pounds.5 He is listed in the Nebraska Gazetteer Business Directory and farmer list for 1890 - 1891 for Kearney County as being in Minden.6 John was listed as the head of a family on the 1900 Census at Evans Township, Marshall County, Illinois. Peter Extrom Passed Away at Daughter's Home From Old Age and Complications
Peter Extrom, aged 90, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ellen Olson, Tuesday morning at 7:15 o'clock, of old age and complications. He had been in failing health for some time. He was a son of the late Magnus and Stina Extrom and was born in Varmland, Sweden, November 20, 1855. He came to the United States in 1879 and located in the vicinity of Varna. On November 4, 1881, he was united in marriage with Miss Christina Moblad, and to this union 9 children were born, Ellen Olson, Wenona; Selma Swanson, Saskatchewan, Canada; Charles, Salem; Harry, Downers Grove; Maude Snyder, Storm Lake, Iowa; William, Chicago; Mabel McFadden, Streator; Berdie Marland, Dwight; Lloyd, Los Angeles, California. Following his marriage, they resided for a few years near Magnolia, then moved to Nebraska, where he engaged in farming for 9 years. Returning to Illinois he located in Munster where he also engaged in farming for 25 years. In 1919 he retired and moved to Wenona, where he has since resided. He was preceded in death by his wife 20 years ago and by three brothers Charles, John and Andrew, and one sister, Louise. He is survived by his children, 32 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren, and one brother, August, of Varna. Funeral services are being held today (Thursday) at 2:30 o'clock from the Bethany Lutheran church of which he was a member. Rev. Kenneth Farb of Peoria, a former local pastor, officiating. Two songs were sung, "Abide With Me" and "Rock of Ages" by Edwin Lindgren, with Miss Blanche Lindgren at the organ. Burial took place in the Wenona cemetery. Pall bearers were grandsons of Mr. Extrom. Friends and relatives attended from Varna, Streator, Dwight, Chicago, Downers Grove, Moline, Peoria, Salem and Storm Lake, Iowa.11,12

His body was interred on 14 March 1946 at Swedish Cemetery, Wenona, LaSalle County, Illinois.
