Please excuse all the "thinking" I am recording here... I am trying to figure out if Jan and Maria's daughter Doreen Elaine Naude named as Brits, married to Frederick Coenraad Brits, on her mother's DN in 1967 and her brother Louis' DN in 1970, is the same as the Doreen Elaine Naude who married James Morgan Read as a 28 yo spinster in 1949 in Pretoria.
Doreen Elaine Read
She was widowed in 1964. She is recorded as READ in the 1972 and 1984 Voters Rolls, but she could have married Frederick after James died and separated from him before registering to vote in 1972.
Points to consider...
1. Her address in 1949 is given as 70 Schoeman Street, Pretoria. When Richard married in both 1939 and 1944 his address is given as 16 Schoeman Street. Families often lived near to each other...
2. Richard and Doreen cannot both have been born in February 1916 (7th and 27th), unless they were twins. But the records show different dates of birth - could one of these be incorrect? If not, was one of their years of birth recorded incorrectly? Their siblings' baptism records are available online, so I expect theirs will also be there, just not yet indexed.
3. Doreen Read's place of birth is given as East London which is aligned with the rest of the documentation for this family, and so she could be the daughter of Jan and Maria based on location and timing.
4. The only record I can find for Doreen's death is a possible Doreen Elain Read who was buried in 1980. It is possible her entry in the 1984 Voters Roll was based on her previous information and never verified or updated. It has her age at death as 58, so a probable year of birth of 1922... perhaps she passed herself off as younger than she was if she remarried (Brits).
Also, in GendB Richard's death is given as 1980-01... did they die in the same year?
5. It may seem weird for me to be focusing so much effort on this woman, who is not even a blood relative of mine... but she is the mother of my 2C1R, named with DoB in his father's DN, but for whom I can subsequently find zero records. I am hoping if I can find more about his mother, I can eventually find out more about him :)
