Brief overview:
Jan (55), A caretaker at Bushveld holiday chalets on was murdered on a farm in Marken, Limpopo on 21st October 2009.
Jan was shot in the back on the farm Johannesberg in the Villa Nora district, about 50 km from Lephalale (Ellisras). He died in the house. He was shot by a young Zimbabwean who apparently worked as a gardener for Potgieter.
The Zimbabwean was wounded in one side when Potgieter's wife, Annelie, shot at him.

- There were three farm attacks in the same area in ten days, and it suspected that they could be linked. On October 21 Jan Potgieter, was killed in Marken. On October 24, Pieter Botha of Mokolo Safaris was badly injured in an attack. Izak and Mariaan Jansen van Vuuren of the farm Clanwilliam were attacked while going home after church last Sunday. Izak was apparently so badly injured he would have to undergo extensive facial plastic surgery.
