About Jane Donald
Jane's will was written on 21 March 1907, some years after David Donald's death. Her executors were Robert Stewart, the Presbyterian Minister in Greymouth, George Thomas Moss, an Auctioneer at Greymouth, and Charles George Frederick Morice, Medical Practitioner, of Greymouth..
Her estate was bequeathed as follows : .
Margaret Jane McNeill and Selina McNeill, daughters of Robert William James McNeill, were each left the sum of fifty pounds.
Robert Stewart, one of her executors, was left the sum of one hunderd pounds.
The remainder of the estate was to be divided into four equal shares which were to be distributed as follows : .
David Baird of Totara Flat, employed as a farm hand, presumably at Beulah, was to have one share.
David Campbell, a farmer in Toowoomba, Queensland, and Henry Stevenson, a farmer in Narra Allen Burra, New South Wales, were to be given half of one share each.
Mrs James Johnston, of Franklyn Villa, Port Ayr, Scotland, Helen Stewart, daughter of Robert Stewart, the Presbyterian Minister in Greymouth, and Jane Stewart, her sister, were each to be given one-third of one share.
And the Presbyterian Church at Totara Flat, the Presbyterian Chrurch at Greymouth, and the Grey River Hospital Trustees were each to be give one-third of one share.
The Grey River Argus (Grey River Argus, 11 July 1913, Page 6) referred to this bequest and gave its value as three hundred and fifty-one pounds, three shillings. My calculator tells me that the total value of the estate must therefore have been four thousand, four hundred and thirteen pounds, sixteen shillings..
