Jane Hamilton Purvines

Jane Coleman was a daughter of Theophilus Coleman and Abigail Robertson. Her father left home to fight against Britain in the War of 1812. He never returned home, and his family never learned his fate.

Jane married first to George Knox Hamilton on 5 March 1823. They had three children: Robert F., Martha M., and George K. Jr. Mr. Hamilton died 14 October 1828.

Mrs. Jane Coleman Hamilton married second to Alexander Caldwell Purvines (aka Purviance), a widower with four children. They married in October 1831 in Sangamon Co., IL and had eight children: Margaret A., William G., Nancy S., Sarah A., Alexander J., Itha L., James O., and Edgar C.
