ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
FOUND DEAD. Jane Harris, an elderly married woman, residing in Matlock Street, Woolston, was found lying dead in her bed yesterday afternoon by Constable Wilson, with a five-chambered revolver, four chambers of which, were loaded, while one contained a discharged cartridge-case, lying on tho bed near her right hand. Tho deceased's face was covered with blood. It is stated that tho deceased, who was fifty-eight years of age, was of eccentric habits, and that she frequently locked herself into her house. On August 10 she left the residence of her son, Mr William Harris, at Allandale, near Lyttelton, where she had been staying, and returned to Christchurch. Yesterday Mr Harris called at his mother's residence, and obtained no response to repeated knocking at the door. He became alarmed, and called in the police. Constable Wilson broke open the door, and found the deceased lying dead. An inquest will be held at the Morgue at 11.30 a.m. to-morrow.
