JANE HILTON HELMERSHAUSEN - On Wednesday of this week Grandmother Helmershausen closed her journey of life. She would have entered her ninetieth year had she lived until the 21st of next March. Her death was not the result of a convulsion of nature, but like the old clock, worn out by the hand of time, the pinions worn from the wheels and the weight run down, the propelling power exhausted the pendulum ceases to vibrate and all is over. She died sitting in her old arm chair in her cottage near the creek, in the same locality where she with her husband settled nearly forty years ago. Her husband, died some ten years ago, and yesterday her remains were conveyed to the cemetery and laid by his side, followed by her children, grand, and great-grandchildren and a large concourse of sympathizing friends. Fifty-three years elapsed from her marriage to her husband's death, during which time she became the mother of eleven children, eight of them still living and all of them in this immediate vicinity. A very impressive funeral discourse was preached by Rev. Tabor from Isaiah 64th chapter, 4th verse.

Jane was the daughter of John and Jane Hilton. She married Henry Helmershausen on September 3, 1815 in Bristol, Lincoln, Maine. They were the parents of William, Harrison, Harriet, Mary, Charles, Sophia, Sylvanus, Faustina, Catherine, Norman, and Eliza.
