About Jane G. Montgomery

Widowed at age 40, pregnant and with 7 children (4 minors). She sold her property in Clarke County in 1857 and moved to Jasper County, MS.

In 1860 at age 51 she married Henry J. Allen of Jasper County. Her youngest child Nelson Jackson Montgomery ran away from home after her marriage when he was 10 years old. It is said that Mr. Allen was not too kind to Jane's minor children. Nelson Jackson went to live with his older brother Jonathan. Family owned a slave boy, Charles, when Jane's husband died. It is assumed Charles stayed in Clarke County when the family moved to MS. Jane Champion's 2nd daughter married William Allen in 1830. His father was Henry Allen, born in Alabama. It is logical that Jane married the father of her son-in-law.
