About Jane Nuthall

Jane, the widow Major implied marriages

Jane married John Major. Jane was the wife of John Major (W/P 28 April 1648) and the mother of William, John, Alice and Jane Major. (Marshall, James Handley. Abstracts of the Wills and Administrations of Northampton County, Virginia, 1632-1802. Camden MA: Picton Press:21.

[Notes: The widow married Thomas Johnson. Then orphan's account of John Major's children names the children John, Alice and Jane Major (21)

Jane was the wife of Thomas Johnson (W/P 28 December 1658) and the mother of two of his children; Richard and Elizabeth Johnson. Thomas and Obedience Johnson were children my his first wife (59. Houston, William R. M. & Milalyka, Jean M. Colonial Residents of Virginia's Eastern Shore. Baltimore MD: Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc.: 58).

Note: The widow's name is Jane Johnson (Marshall: 59).

Jane was the wife of John Nuthall John Nuthall / Jane Johnson 12 September [1661] Marshall: 64).

The Virginia records show that John Major was first married to Maudlen ??? before 1632. Evidence is the suit by Susan Helline for midwife services.

It is widely recorded that wife # 2 was Jane Lorrimer. Evidence for this: John Major's certificate for importing 8 individuals lists " Jany, daughter of Henry Lorrymer" on August 3 1640 . John Major's Patent granted Sept. 1640 lists Jane Maior. Jany Lorrymer becomes Jane Maior [sic].So the assumption is John Major marries Jane Lorrymer in Aug./Sept. 1640.
