Jane Bailey Wyatt Salvesen

Birth: Aug. 21, 1924 Baker City Baker County Oregon, USA Death: May 24, 2011 Hyrum Cache County Utah, USA

HYRUM, Utah - Jane, our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, neighbor and friend, passed away peacefully with family at her bedside on Tuesday, May 24, 2011. Jane Bailey Wyatt Salvesen was born Aug. 21, 1924, in Baker City, Ore. She was the second of six children born to James Rowell Leavitt Wyatt and Janette Bradshaw Bailey Wyatt. Shortly after her birth, the Wyatt family moved back to Wellsville, Utah. Jane attended elementary and junior high school in Wellsville and South Cache High School and LDS seminary in Hyrum, graduating in the spring of 1942. While attending high school she met and fell in love with a handsome football player, Mervin Norman Salvesen. After graduation from high school, while World War II was raging, Jane took a job as a typist clerk in Ogden at 2nd Street (Army Depot). Her work there lasted for 2 1/2 years. After her sweetheart returned from serving an LDS mission, they were married in the Logan LDS Temple by President ElRay L. Christiansen on April 19, 1944. Jane has always been active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and has served in the Relief Society presidency, ward Primary president, ward Young Women's president, and more than 30 years as ward and stake librarian. She has been a longtime active member of the Sego Lilly Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and a member of the Hyrum Literary Club. As a young mother living on Hollow Road, she was invited by a group of women in Nibley to join the Choralee Chorus; through this experience she made many lasting friendships. As a young couple while serving on an "Old Folks" committee, they made lifetime friends with eight other couples that to this day still meet once a month for dinner and socializing. In keeping with Jane's belief, "mothers are responsible for creating traditions that help bind families together," her home has been the location of numerous family gatherings and celebrations. This tradition continues to contribute to her family's happiness and togetherness. Her hobbies include: collecting porcelain dolls, crocheting, quilting, sewing and cooking. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Mervin; by her children and their spouses, Michael (Karalee) of Nibley, David (Vicky) of Cedar City, Norman (Vicki) of Mission Vie Jo, Calif., Richard (LaDawn) of Nibley, James (Stephanie) of Brigham City, Ronald (Cheralynn) of Hyrum, and Douglas (Raylyne) of Hyrum; and 32 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Spencer Wyatt (Alice) of North Ogden, Gloria Kolts (Robert, deceased) of Bountiful, Betsy Long (Jay) of Bountiful, James Wyatt (Joyce) of River Heights, and Jeanette Rasmussen (Hal, deceased) of Brigham City. Jane was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 27, at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center, Logan, Utah. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Allen-Hall Mortuary, and prior to services Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery. Condolences and memories may be expressed with the family online at www.allenmortuaries.net. Published in Logan Herald Journal from May 25 to May 26, 2011
