About Jane Hope Smith
Jane Hope Dance was the GGGrandaughter of Captain Brabyn, Leiutenant Governor of Tasmania who came to Port Jackson with the First Fleet as an Ensign. This branch of Smith descends from Thomas Smith, Warwickshire, 1779 convict on the Calcutta who was with Gov. Collins who were Hobart's first settlers and Martha Fegan (or Fagan) on the Alexander II to Hobart in 1816. Martha was born abt. 1792 in Dublin and was transported for 7 years for stealing linen from a shop.
