The following information was submitted by: has2laff@hotmail.com

His daughter, Rebecca Allison McCain is my ancestor.

Name: Tate Allison

Spouse: Mary "Polly" Henry

Tate moved his family from Derry Township, Westmoreland County (later Indiana County), to Clarion County in 1801 (the same time as Alexander McCain) and settled on land above where Limestone is today. The farm was still owned by the Allison family per a letter from another descendant, Helen Williams Urban, dated April 22, 1975 to Pegi Males Nelson.

A review of the formation of the counties might be helpful. Cumberland county was formed in 1750. From it was formed the following: Bedford in 1771; Northumberland in 1772; Westmoreland in 1773; Franklin in 1784; Mifflin in 1789; Indiana in 1803. In the James Lewis Allison account he states the Allisons came from that part of Cumberland County known as Franklin county. The whole family then moved to Derry Township, Westmoreland County in the mid-1780s, preceeded by an older son, Andrew. The section of Derry Township where they settled was incorporated into what became Indiana County after 1803.

Tate served in the Militia in the Revolutionary War and have been proven by the D.A.R. as did his brothers Andrew and James Allison. His father, Robert, contributed "Public Service" to the Revolutionary War effort, meaning he is documented as having paid taxes.

Tate appears in the Muster Roles for 1781, July 1 listed as First Class, 3rd Co., 4th Battalion of the Cumberland Co., militia under Captain Joseph Culbertson, received from Charles Campbell, Westmoreland County, paid by State of PA part of tower duty under Captain Cahill, paid July 31, 1792 $3.00. Discharged July 31, 1792.

In 1850 Mary had pre-deceased Tate, aged 91, residing with son (Thompson Thomas Allison).

Tate owned a window that is still in the old Rehobeth Church. The history of his branch of the Allison family may be found in the old Indiana County, PA History Books.
