About Jane Terry Young, Plural-Wife of Mormon Leader Brigham Young

Jane Terry Young (1819 - 1847) was born in St. Louis, Lincoln, Canday on 21 May 1819, the daughter of Pershall and Hannah Terry.

At the age of 16 she married George Tarbox. They had one child whom they named Elisha (born 1837).

The Tarbox family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while in Canada and arrived in Far West, Caldwell County, Missouri about 1838. George Tarbox died in 1838 and Jane married George Young, with whom she had Emma Amanda Young, born 28 February 1841 in Calhoun, Illinois.

As a result of growing hostility against the Mormons, George moved the family in January 1846 to a temporary camp named Sugar Creek in Iowa. George Young became ill and died in the fall of 1846.

Jane also was ill and died of consumption on 10 February 1847. Apparently she requested and was married to Brigham Young shortly before her death.
