The Question of Identity

Janet Hamilton is the daughter of Robert Hamilton, coppersmith and portioner of the Kirkton of Kilbride, in Lanarkshire, Scotland, and his wife Janet Alexander. She was born on 1 January 1756 and her baptism was registered at the Kirk of Kilbride in Lanarkshire, Scotland. Her baptismal record reads as follows: "Janet lawful daughter to Robert Hamilton portioner of Kirktoun and Agnes Alexander spouses born Janry 1". Marriage and Children

Janet Hamilton married William Nimmo, sometime Surgeon in Kirkintilloch and then afterwards Surgeon in Glasgow [Lanark Sasine Abridgements for 1782, abridgement no. 194, which cites Particular Register 21/203] and they had five children whose names are known from baptismal or other records:
