"Donald MacDonald, formerly Gorme, of Slate, in the Isle of Skye, co Inverness, son and heir of Archibald MacDonald, of the same, by Margaret or May, daughter of Angus MacDonald of Duniveg and Glennis, succeeded his uncle Donald MacDonald, otherwise Gorme, of Slate, 1616, and was created a Baronet [S], 14 July 1625, with rem. to heirs male whatsoever, and with precedency over Douglas, Strachan, and Livingstone, the three creations next above him, and with the grant of presumably 16,000 acres in Nova Scotia, of which, however, he never had seizin. The patent is not in the Great Seal Register, but 'only in one old list'. He supported Charles I in the Civil Wars. He married Janet, sister of Colin, 1st Earl of Seaforth [S], 2nd daughter of Kenneth (MacKenzie), 1st Lord MacKenzie of Kintail [S] by his 1st wife Anne, daughter of George Ross, of Balnagowan. He died October 1643."
