Aunt Janet was apparently named for her maternal grandmother Szejna Etka Margolis Bramson (Sheina). Her mother's death certificate gives HER mother's name as "Janet" (not that she ever came to the U.S. or Anglicized her name).
My Aunt Janet (really my great aunt) is the beautiful young woman on the right. She told me about sailing to Europe with her father, Harry Frankel, in 1929. Was she 19 years old? She said it was the last time they saw their relatives because then Hitler came to power and although a few relatives fled to Palestine in the 1930s, the rest stayed and perished in the Holocaust.
Linda Eve Frankel, my cousin, shared this photograph. Her grandfather, Abe H (A.H.) is the dapper young man on the left. She asked me, could the woman on the right be Janet? And there was my aunt! Linda says that A.H. sent this postcard from Berlin. I am fairly sure that the woman in the middle is also a Frankel cousin because she resembles Aunt Janet and my grandmother, Ann Frankel Rubenstein Handelsman. Who was she? The mystery woman.
