Brief overview:
Janine (24), was hijacked and kidnapped, along with her baby, Kayla Rawstorne (1), and her mother, Hester Lavesa Rawstorne, on July 31, 2003 from Arcadia in Pretoria. Janine and Hester were both raped, Janine multiple times, then all three victims were murdered. Baby Kayla was shot once in the head and once in the chest. Hester was shot in the neck and thrown out of the car on the Heilbron Road because she had answered a cellphone. Janine was shot 14 times.
Their mutilated bodies were found in a desolated area in Stinkwater outside Hammanskraal.

- "Kayla was buried in her mother's arms on Friday. A tearful Linda Jordaan, Kayla's grandmother, put one of the baby's teddy bears next to a wreath of brightly coloured flowers on the coffin. Clifford Rawstorne (34), Kayla's father and Drennen's fiancé, cried inconsolably. His two sons from a former marriage, Michael (12), and Shaun (9) stood next to their father as the coffin was lowered into the grave. Hester was buried in Pretoria West on Friday afternoon."

- William Kekana was arrested and appeared in the Temba Circuit High Court, presided by Judge Monica Leeuw, in June 2004. His accomplice, Charles Fido Baloyi, was shot dead at the time of Kekana's arrest. Kekana and Baloyi also abducted a 17 year-old teenager, who was walking with her boyfriend. She was also raped, and shot in the head, but survived, and testified. Kekana pleaded guilty in June 2004 to 10 of the 14 charges against him. He admitted abducting the victims, and abducting and raping the 17-year-old girl at Stinkwater, and attempting to kill her, but denied involvement in the murders.
- Kekana said Baloyi had shot Rawstone, and said he had feared Baloyi and forced to commit the crimes. Kekana said he and Baloyi visited Baloyi's sister, and she called the police when she saw Drennen and Kayla in the back seat of the car and became suspicious. Kekana told the court they had kidnapped the girl because Baloyi wanted to rape Drennen but did not want to rape a woman on his own. The 17-year-old gave testimony and said both accused had opened fire on Drennen after the rape "until she fell to the ground silent". The autopsy found two different types of bullets Drennen's body 9mm and .22.
- 08/10/2014: "More than 10 years after he was sentenced to multiple life sentences for a spate of killings – including the high-profile murder of baby Kayla Rawstone, her mother and grandmother – the man dubbed the devil himself by a judge has turned to the court to seek a sentence reduction. William Kekana did not appeal his six life sentences and an additional 60 years’ imprisonment in the Rawstone matter, but rather the life term as well as 35 years he received for the cold-blooded, execution-style killing of Brits resident Jacobus Geldenhuys. Kekana was sentenced for the Geldenhuys murder a few weeks before he was convicted for the Rawstone family killings. Geldenhuys was hijacked in Sunnyside, Pretoria, on July 22, 2003 when he returned to his car after visiting his wife at the Medicross Heart Hospital. Geldenhuys, 38, was taken to a deserted plot in Pretoria North, where he was shot three times in the head – execution-style. Kekana was at the time with his friend Fido Baloyi, who joined him a week later in the Rawstone triple killing."
