About Janne Henric Osterberg
John H Osterberg came with his parents from Vestergotland, Sweden, in 1866. They came by steamboat to Montreal and from there, by way of the St. Lawrence River. His family settled in Pope County, Minnesota, close to Kensington.
The Family
John Osterberg, Sr., farmed three quarters and an eighty, which had all been broken up by horses. He bought his first threshing machine in 1907 and after doing custom threshing in the neighborhood, he took it up into the Carnduff and Carievale, Canada, area and did threshing there. There was also a cook car with the threshing outfit.
The family was all interested in music and their home was a gathering place for friends and neighbors on Sundays and other evenings. They would gather together around the organ and sing.
They also took an active part in establishing the Pike Lake Church, in Minnesota.
On May 17, 1930, John and Christine Osterberg celebrated their Golden Wedding at the homestead with all of their children and grandchildren in attendance, a really joyous celebration.
