It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Janet (Jennie) Piercey at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late John A. Bonnar and Margaret (Guy) Bonnar. She was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines, a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 8, Sydney Mines Pensioners Club, and Memory Lane Fun Band (which she thoroughly enjoyed). She was an avid bingo and card player. She is survived by her daughter, Georgina Laffin; six grandchildren, Blayne (Jun), Paula (Tim), Marty (Lori), Derek (Carm), Jocelyn, Tracy; five great-grandchildren, Chace. Also surviving are sisters, Mary (Lovey) Matthews, Millicent (Missie) MacLean, Lorraine Young; sister-in-law, Opel Bonnar; nieces, Jackie Penny (Philip), whom she thought of as a daughter, Mary Francis Marsh (Sean and Jordan); greatniece, Kelly Smith (Robert and Megan); numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends, especially at 2 Devoe St. She was predeceased by her husband, Martin Piercey, son-in-law, Bill Laffin, two greatgrandsons, Lane and Keane, brothers, Lemuel, Sylvie, sisters, Jessie, Margaret Ferguson (William), Henrietta Matthews (Willard). Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, Rev. Peter Rafuse officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery. As memorials, donations may be made to Trinity Anglican Church, the Sydney Mines Pensioners Hall, or charity of choice.
