About Jared Flagg, II
Gt. grandfather father Charles Noel Flagg was from an illustrious family. His brother Montague was an accomplished artist, his brother Ernest an architect of national stature, his brother Allston had a seat on the NY Stock exchange and his sister Louise was married to publisher Charles Scribner. There was, however, a brother Jared Flagg Jr. who was clearly the Black Sheep of the family. Among his real estate holdings were apartments aid to be run as bawdy houses, and he wrote Flagg's Flats, an autobiography, in part from his cell in The Tombs prison in New York. A decade later, he was in more trouble as seen in the front page NY TIMES article below. I don't know what the outcome of it all was, but when Pete & Juanie Flagg named their younger son JARED, Grandmother Maxson grumbled about naming a baby for the family crook. - Peter Maxson
