21 September 1705: Contract of Marriage between John Chancellor of Sheilhill, on the one part, and Mrs Jean Agnew, lawful eldest daughter to Sir Jame Agnew of Lochnaw, Kt, Bt, Sheriff of Wigtoun, with consent of her said father, on the other part; whereby the said John Chancellor and Jean Agnew accept of each other for lawful spouses. In contemplation whereof, he binds himself to infeft her, in liferent, in the sum of 1,800 merks, Scots of annuity and jointure; and if there should be no heirs or children procreat of the marriage, or if they should die before her, in the sum of 1,800 merks of additional annuity and jointure, all furth of the lands of Shneilhill and others: for the which causes the said Sir James Agnew binds himself to pay to the said John Chancellor, the sum of 7,000 marks Scots, in name of tocher with his said daughter.
