About Sir James Agnew, 4th Baronet of Lochnaw
Biographical Summary
"Sir James Agnes, Baronet [S 1629] of Lochlaw, 11h Hereditary Sheriff of Galloway, son and heir, succeeded to the Baronetcy in June 1702. In 1708 he sold the Irish estates of the family (which had been long in their possession) to his agent, Patrick Agnew. In 1724 he resigned the Sheriffdom to his son. He married (contract dated 22 June 1683) Mary, daughter of Alexander Montgomerie, 8th Earl of Dumfries [S]. By her he had a large family. He died aged 75 and upwards, at Edinburgh, 9 March 1735. His widow died April 1742, aged 90. Both buried in the Abbey of Holrood."
