Jean Flournoy of Flornoy

Jean Flournoy was seated in Flornoy in 1509. The family, at the beginning of the sixteenth centhry and possibly for several centuries prior, was seated at Flornoy, an estate in Champage(modern- Haute Marne), a few milew from Vassy. The family owned other lands and messuagees in the vacinity. Escutcheon charges and device that the surname was derived from the name of the estate. The ancient estate is now marked only by the small village of Flornoy, situated on a rivulet by the same name.
